IN-PERSON WORKSHOP

The courses are designed so that participants can spend as much time as possible practising the techniques demonstrated in the theoretical sections. The generous instructor-to-participant ratio encourages interaction between participants and instructors, thus facilitating learning.

Course AIM

The course aims to introduce participants to the ultrasound approach of the hemodynamically unstable patient. This course is aimed at two audiences: physicians who are knowledgeable about ultrasound and want to consolidate their knowledge, and novices who would like to be introduced to it.

Objectives

At the conclusion of training, participants will be better able to:

  1. Categorize undifferentiated shock via an algorithmic approach;
  2. Identify pneumothorax and interstitial syndrome with lung ultrasound;
  3. Identify the signs of obstructive shock (tamponade, pulmonary embolism);
  4. Qualitatively assess left ventricular function;
  5. Assess the inferior vena cava;
  6. Assess volemia and fluid responsiveness potential.

8:20-9:00 a.m. Lung ultrasound (theory)
9:00-10:15 a.m. Lung (practical)
10:15-11:00 a.m. Subcostal/IVC & the State of the circulation (theory)
11:00-12:00 p.m. Subcostal and inferior vena cava view (practical)
12:00-12:45 p.m. Lunch is provided. Coffee and snacks will also be served.
12:45-13:30 p.m. Complementary cardiac views (theory)
13:30-15:00 p.m. Complementary cardiac views (practical)
15:00-16:00 p.m. Algorithmic approach to shock (EGLS)
16:00-17:45 p.m. EGLS (practical)
17:45-18:00 p.m. Conclusion (theory)

Accreditation

This course is accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Participants will be entitled to :

  • 24 Mainpro+ certified credits

This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians.

  • I can't access the eLearning ?

    1. Make sure the email isn't in your junk mail folder 2. Go to the login page and chose "I forgot my password". You will receive an email with a new password. 3. If you still can't access the eLearning after steps 1 and 2, write to info@EchoGuidedLifeSupport.com : you will get an answer within 24 hours (It could be slightly longer outside North America, depending on your time zone)

  • What is the course fee ?

    It varies depending of the geographical location of the course.

  • What should I study before the course?

    We suggest that you read the EGLS book and watch the podcasts/videos that are on our website before the course.

  • Can I get a second copy of my certificate and/or my official receipt?

    Please contact us for more informations.

  • Do I need to have completed an ultrasound program before doing the EGLS course?

    No. The course was developed so that medical personnel with little or no previous ultrasound training could attend.

  • Who can attend the EGLS course?

    Anyone likely to encounter critically ill patients (physicians, students, PAs, Nurses, paramedics, RTs…)

  • Are there side-effects to ultrasound examination or other health risks?

    No. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not pose a health risk.

  • When can I obtain my Mainpro+ certified credits?

    Only after completing your post-event exercise (6 to 12 weeks after your training, you will be able to obtain your Mainpro+ credits.

  • How many credits can I obtain after the EGLS course?

    The EGLS course gives you 16 Group Learning certified credits (Mainpro+). Also, this training is an accredited group learning activity (Section 1), such as defined by The Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (8 credits).
